Q. Can security cameras detect guns?

Yes, providing the security cameras or network system is equipped with gun detection analytics. Most security cameras do not function at this level, but often they can be post-production outfitted with the necessary analytics to have the ability to detect weapons. The next step is to connect those security cameras to a visible gun detection system like Omnilert, which has the capabilities to send mobile alerts to security teams, law enforcement, school officials and others. Omnilert can also incorporate with access control systems, mass communications, and alarms.

Q. What is the difference between a metal detector and a weapons detection system?

Traditional metal detectors do not have the ability to distinguish between an actual weapon and a simple, everyday metal object. The Opengate security system is a good example of this. Opengate cannot detect or identify a concealed weapon on a person like the Evolv Express system, which was expressly designed with AI sensors to do just that—detect hidden weapons, specifically, guns. Opengate is a traditional metal detector at its most basic level, without the advanced technology to specifically identify actual weapons.

Q. Can the Evolv Express weapons detection system detect all weapons, like knives and other potential weapons?

Evolv Technology designed the Express system specifically to detect firearms, both handguns and rifles, identifying them by their size, dimension and metal composition (nickel, iron, etc.). The Evolv Express system has the ability to match a detected object being carried on a person, in a backpack, purse, bag, etc., and compare it to a comprehensive list of firearm profiles, makes and brands. If the Evolv system discovers a match, an alert is sent to a security monitor displaying a red box highlighting the area on the person where the suspected weapon is being concealed.

Q. What is the cost of Evolv Express or the Omnilert system?

As you can imagine, the price or cost of the Evolv or Omnilert weapons detection systems vary according to the needs of their intended use—a dual lane or single lane walkthrough weapons detection system, indoor or outdoor units, whether security cameras are to be incorporated in the Evolv system, among other considerations. There are used Evolv systems for sale that can be purchased by schools, hospitals, government agencies, municipalities, police stations, nightclubs, public venues, and large commercial businesses.
